I have 3 bunnies housed together in my spare bedroom. I also have a conure that is housed in a cage in my bedroom. Our bedroom is a bit cramped. My fiance suggested moving the bird cage into the bunny room but I’m hesitant. I haven’t heard issues of domestic birds passing any diseases or illnesses along to rabbits, but I wanted to know if any of you house your birds in the same room as your buns. I’m also nervous about any feathers or bird food that may get out of the cage and if my bunnies would eat it. Feathers aren’t too big of an issue, I don’t really think the buns would be interested and he doesn’t molt much anyway. The food is what bothers me. He eats mostly pellets and sometimes crumbs end up on the floor. Some seed too, but minimal. How much of a problem would it be if the buns were to ingest some of this food? I’m sure it wouldn’t be too enticing for them but there’s always that chance. Anyone have experience with birds and buns?

I have a parrotlet. Pips cage is not in the same room Charlie sleeps in, but it is in a common area of the house. What Pip tends to toss out of cage pellet and seed wise is not a large amount, but Charlie does want to eat it. I sweep often to prevent her from eating from the floor and possibly getting any tummy issues. Pip tends to eat mainly in the morning and again at supper time, so I’m able to keep a close eye on what comes out of the cage and clean it up.

The reason I keep such a close eye on what is tossed from cage to floor is because I had another bunny who had a lot of stasis issues. One happened the same day I found him licking up some seeds that were on the floor. I can’t say for certain that was the cause of his stasis that time. But its been in my mind  as a possibility, so I do my best to make sure Charlie does not eat what Pip tosses.
