hi everyone, as you can see, the tip of my bunny’s ears are slightly discoloured. I can’t imagine that this is because of his ear mites, but I do notice that he’s a messy drinker and never cares when his ears are in his water bowl or when his whole face is in the water haha. He probably gets them in his bowl almost every day, maybe even during the night as well whilst I can’t check up on him lol. But it’s quite odd that water would cause it to go this colour, no? His ears are nice and warm almost all the time. Maybe it’s the mixture of the water and then the wood shaving bedding? Do you think the water caused it? I don’t really want to consider a water bottle because he doesn’t like to drink from one. How do I try and prevent this discolouration from happening?💕

Can you try a smaller water bowl? Like one that mounts?

@LBJ10 hi! That’s a good idea! The bowl’s diameter is quite big but it isn’t very deep. Because it’s quite wide he might be prone to getting his ears in it more? So maybe I could get one that has a smaller diameter but larger depth, so he still has the same amount to drink on every day. I could trial that to see if it would work. Does that sound good?

I think smaller diameter and deeper would work! There are crocks that mount to the side of a cage or pen that fit that description.

If you are concerned it wouldn’t be enough water, you could add a bottle or second bowl as a backup.

I don’t think it would hurt to try. If it doesn’t work, then you can always try something else.
