Hey guys, I’m kind of scared about getting my older rabbit neutered. I’m not sure exactly how old my rabbit is, we got him for free from an acquaintance like 5 years ago and he was already an adult when we got him. He seemed to be at least a year old but I really can’t be sure. He is an American chinchilla rabbit and his life span is only about 7-9 years. He hasn’t shown any prominent physical signs of aging (he’s still active, can groom himself, no underlying health conditions, etc.) So I don’t think he is too old. But he as to be neutered in about three weeks because of an infection in his testicle, it is a non optional procedure and has to be done. Should I be worried about him since he is older? I was told that the risks during surgery increase for older rabbits. A family member of mine knows his vet personally and says she works on rabbits all the time and I should not be worried because she is very knowledgeable about rabbits. And the vet herself told me that she hasn’t ever had any complications with rabbit anesthesia in the past, but I am still worried you know?
