Hey guys, my rabbit, Thumper has been having a whole lot of stomach issues lately, abnormal poop, gas, etc. We’ve taken him to the vet and he is on probiotics and gas drops. His feces and other issues seem to be clearing up but his gas just won’t go away. We think his stomach is acting up because he was on antibiotics and pain meds for an infection like two weeks ago and he started having stomach issues shortly after that. So most likely his gas is a side effect from getting hid gut bacteria all out of whack from the antibiotics, and will eventually go away after his gut bacteria is back to normal. He is still eating and drinking, grooming himself, and hes still active and playing with toys, so I’m not especially worried (we’re also still in close communication with his vet)but I was wondering if you guy’s have any tips to help relieve him of the gas?

If he’s already on gas drops, you could try massaging his belly. You can also try lifting his rear end up a bit, if he’ll let you. The gas will naturally want to travel upward, so lifting his rear will direct the gas in the proper direction.

What’s his diet like? If he is eating his hay well, going to a hay-only diet for a while might help things resolve and establish healthy gut microbes.

Is he showing signs of pain? It’s good he’s active, as movement can also help with gas.
