Hi everyone! I had two bunnies together up until a few days ago. They are approaching three months and I wanted to avoid fights or pregnancies. Before I separated them, I did notice that the other bunny was grooming him in the face often. They have a vet appointment for the 26th but I’m concerned for his eye. I’ve contacted the vet for a sooner appointment so I’m just looking for any suggestions as to what this could be or if anyone has seen anything similar? Thank you!

It’s hard to tell from the picture exactly what this is. Are we looking at a sore on the lower eyelid? Like the other bunny pulled the fur out?

Yes, that red sore like thing. In person it just looks red, the picture makes it look like a bump but there’s no bump. I’m thinking it was over grooming but I can’t be sure. I am waiting for a closer vet appointment, I want to make sure it’s not infected or I’d like to avoid infection.

Over-grooming seems likely since you observed lots of face grooming. If it is just a bit read, I think it would be OK to keep an eye on for a few days and see what happens. If it gets worse or looks crusty now that they are separated, then I would try to get him seen a bit sooner.

An alternative could be that a sore spot formed, and then the other bun was grooming it to keep it clean. So it’s a question of which came first!
