        Hi everyone,

So I recently built a larger cage for the buns using C&C and their old run (they are housebuns so also roam around the house).  I put down these beautiful vinyl tiles on the correx and unfortunately since moving the bunnies in, I found that Peri has been slipping a lot on the tiles (she does not have as much foot fur). I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be okay to paint the floor of the cage with an anti slip spray (the one I was looking at is the PlatiKote anti slip paint spray 400ml). I emailed the customer service but they weren’t able to advise me if the paint was ‘pet safe’.  I did find another spray (slipdoctors) that said it was pet safe but it was quite pricey, that I might as well replace the tiles.

Would it be ok to use this spray (moving them in only when its completely dry/ no smell), since im not concerned about the bunnies being able to eat the floor. I like to keep some places clear like near the waterbowls for easier cleaning but they do have bedding and fleeces on parts of the cage (so she doesnt slip as much but she does like to move thing around and pile to the corners). Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.

This is tough. A part of me says, well, if it’s dry and your rabbits aren’t intimately licking the tiles day in and out, it’s probably fine. That being said, maybe there are fumes that they can smell that we can’t, and is there any potential consequences to walking on it daily, in terms of adverse contact reactions.

I recommend talking to a rabbit vet.

Hello, thanks for the advice. Now that I think about it, we do have a vet appointment next week so I could ask one of the vets then.

Hmmmm, yeah prob a good question for a vet. In addition to worrying about smells or it chipping and being eaten, I would worry a bit that if it was too tacky that it might pull slightly on their foot fur and be hard on their feet.

It would be safer to clamp down some paper, cardboard, or grass matts in the areas where they are slipping around.

I think I would put down mats or rugs instead with blankets on top. I really don’t like taking any risks like that lol. Mine drip water after they drink but the blanket dries up pretty quickly.

Hi guys, just a little update.

My vet suggested it would be fine as long as they can’t eat it (we have had vinyl tiles in the past and they’ve never been able to lift it,  if it was on the base of the cage). One of the things, I should have mentioned in the original post is that Peri unfortunately has chronic problems (teeth, gum infections and kidney problems), she is on constant penicilin and pain meds. During the times when her health gets worse (she has a bad infection or her teeth get to sharp), she will pee on everything and very frequently.  So we usually remove most of the bedding and rugs during this time (she wears vetwrap and padding to protect her foot). Its important for us that we are able to wipe things because she gets urine scald and it would worsen sore hocks.

Thanks for everyone who responded, hopefully this is helpful for anyone else who has a similar problem.
