Me and my husband are planning to a take trip out of town soon for about 7-10 days and my sister will be looking after our bunny. Which of these two scenarios would be better for bunny?

Option A) We leave bunny in our home and my sister comes in twice a day just to check in on him and feed him but she can’t stay long since she has her own family to take care of. Therefore bunny won’t have much free roam time but he will be in the place he is used to.

Option b) Bunny stays at my sisters house while we’re gone where he will likely be able to have more supervised free roam time and overall more social interaction, but he will be in a new place which I know can stress bunnies out

Option B sounds like it would overall be better for him. Since you’re going to be gone for a week or more I think it would be optimal for your bunny to get plenty of care and playtime with your sister. A new environment will probably stress him out a little bit but since you’re going to be gone for more than a couple of days it would probably be better for him. I would probably send him over to your sister’s with his favorite toys or blankets or beds or whatever so he has some comfort items with him.

I would say it depends on what your sister’s house is like. Do you trust that it is safe and bunny-proofed? Are there other pets in the house? Is it very loud and possibly scary? Do you know how well your bun adapts to changes?

I have done both options with my buns. I usually opt to take them to a sitter’s house if the trip will be longer than 2 weeks, because I think the settling in period is worth it for that length of trip. Some bunnies get very stressed with car rides as well, but mine are usually fine after a couple hours in the new location.

If she is going to come twice a day I would not feel bad about having her come to your place, just so you know he will feel safe in his home territory. Maybe you could set up an extra pen add-on to his area so he has a bit more space available 24/7? For that length of trip a little less exercise is not the end of the world, you could even give him some extra boredom buster toys for that time too. Ideally she could time the visit so it’s during his active hours. I’ve had pet sitters show up at 11 am and the buns are sleepy and not wanting to run around!

There is a handy guide to give bunny-sitters (or you can grab parts you need and add to your own instructions) here: https://binkybunny.com/infocategory/bunny-sitter-guide/

Personally, I would go with option A. But I guess it depends on your sister’s house and how adaptable your bunny is. For me, less out time is less traumatic than completely changing environments. My parents have always just come for feedings, etc. and there have been no problems.
