Figured I’d start extremely late Dec chat thread to see out 2020. Plus my ocd not happy to let the month pass without one. 😬

Happy Holidays and Happy Christmas to all that celebrate it !

So…I pretty much fell onto a sugar coma post-Christmas and the buns didn’t ANY pellets yesterday. *gasp* I know! SEVERE NEGLECT!

P&P were pretty comical when I gave them the pellets today, lol. They came tearing down the ramp & Pegasus did flying leap over Potamus to get to other side of bowl.

TimTim was keen too, but not as crazy.

Ahh yes, December chat when it’s almost January :D. I cannot believe how quickly December flew by, it’s almost Louie’s (estimated) birthday, the shelter he came from guesses he was born on Jan 1-2 of 2020 meaning he’s almost one!!! Probably Lola’s too, we have no idea about her birthday but she’s supposedly similar age to Louie so we’ll celebrate both! 😛

Well make that a party for 3 because the 1st is also TimTims birthday! (Also estimated bd)

I think that’s a good idea to have Louie & Lola’s on the same day. 🙂

I always thought that was August 1st. Maybe southern hemisphere horses have different bd? 😄

That is true! And the rule only applies to thoroughbred race horses:

My Vilde’s birthday is October 30, but he has kindly let me know that he is not opposed to having more birthdays per year, if more cake is involved.

It has to do with standardization the of horse racing industry. A race horse starts its racing career not depending on which year it was born, but depending on how many jan 1 they have lived.  This means you want a horse with promising lineage to be born as early as possible in the year.  If a foal is born late in the year, f ex in December, it turns 1 when its barely a month old. This of course means that when it time for it to race, its a lot less developed than horses born in January, who are a year old when they are almost 12 months old. 😄🤪If that makes sense!

ETA to clarify. Here’s an article that makes more sense than my clumsy effort at explsining: https://horseracingsense.com/why-thoroughbred-racehorses-same-birthday/

LOL that actually makes less sense! Haha

I thought lots of things were different between the northern and southern hemispheres. Why would race horses be any different? LOL
