My rabbit eats blankets whenever he’s in his hidey area, something about being protected just makes him dig and gnaw like crazy. So I put a digging/grass mat in there and now he’s loafed on it several hours a day. I haven’t seen sore hocks on him, just want to make sure as it’s kind of rougher material and he’s usually on blankets and carpets all day.

I couldn’t find the exact type of mat online (it’s a little more tightly braided than others I could find) so here’s a pic of him flopped on it lol

Would this material cause soreness if he’s on it often?

That is one adorable and relaxed bunny 🥰

Grass is great for rabbit feet, but its a good idea to check the thumpers every week for calluses or hair loss anyway, as a part of the weekly “once over”. Yiu may have to fold the hair aon the heels back or to the sides to make sure there are no hidden bald spots.

No, it is only a problem if your rabbit is digging with their back feet, with is very unlikely, but if your rabbit IS digging with their back feet then I would suggest taking out the mat that he is digging on. but if it is just the front feet he/she is digging with, you should be fine! My rabbit has dug at his seagrass mat for about 6 months now and I haven’t had any problems 🙂
