        Hi all,

My bunny got spayed on Saturday morning, and I brought her home Sunday afternoon. She’s pretty much back to acting like herself other than being mad at me because I still keep her confined in a small space so that she doesn’t damage her stitches. I’ve been giving her some of her favorite veggies, and more pellets than usual, but I have noticed that she has barely eaten any hay…. Is this normal? What should I do to encourage her from eating hay?? I’ll add that she’s pooping and peeing normally.

        Thanks!

She’s probably still sore. Did they give you pain meds for her? You could also try adding cilantro or basil to the hay. It worked for Starlight. 🙂 good luck!

At this point, keeping her eating is the most important (and very good she’s pooping and peeing), so offering her extra veg and pellets is good for now. You could also offer some critical care on a spoon or a plate (some bunnies love it).

Refreshing the hay pile often seems to help some buns eat more hay (vs. having just one big pile or a rack stuffed full). Mine always seem very excited when I add new hay, even if it’s just a handful.

You might give the vet a ring and see what they think. She might need a bit more pain medication, as Anis mentioned.

She is taking metacam twice a day (today is the last day per the vet’s instructions). It has been a hassle to give it to her, she hates it.

I’ll refresh her hay today and continue to giver her veggies and pellets. The way she’s moving and acting makes me thing she’s no longer sore, but I may be wrong.
