Hello, my baby is not eating or drinking (or pooping or peeing, either) and it might possibly have been 12 hours or more since he ate anything.

I gave him a bunch of hay last night around 3-3:30 Am and it was (mostly ) gone by 1-2:00 pm the next day.

Now the hay was brown and it smelled weird, it was a new Pack of Timothy Hay from the store (grocery store) because I was running out and my Amazon shipment of hay was due in a few days.

It came yesterday but I didn’t carry it upstairs yet and it was still sealed up so I used the one that I bought. I got a second opinion from my Mom on the smell and the look of it and she said it would probably be fine but she was tired and it was around bedtime so I don’t know if she really paid attention to it or not.

Last night when I fed him he was running around just fine, he had water and I gave him hay and some dried Cranberry mix that had cranberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries and also a strawberries. I didn’t give him all of those things that’s just what the mix had in it and he only had a couple/a few bites of those like two cranberries worth.

Right now he is hunched up in his box in his cage and he keeps trying to lay down but he won’t get comfortable, around 5 or six pm I tried to feed him pellets and those berry mix again (his favorites) and he didn’t eat them. We tried lettuce, Cilantro, those things, two/three different types of hay including his favorite types. Actually including a flowery Botanical hay we tried four types of hays. He loves two of those four and one is new which he’s never tried.

Anyway he won’t eat or drink and we’ve been feeding him Mylicon baby gas Drops and a (separate) blended mixture of rabbit Pellets, canned pure raw pumpkin, romaine lettuce, Cilantro, and water. We’ve also been syringe feeding him water and a pedialyte/ orange gatorade mixture. So three different things plus water. The gas drops have been every hour for two hours so far so two doses so far. It’s been about an hour this time but my Mom says she wants to wait a little bit before giving it to him again. We’ve been giving him .5 cc they say .5 cc for larger rabbits and we think he is a Creme d’argent or a New zealand rabbit. Most likely the latter. He’s Flemish giant colored but he isn’t really giant, lol. He’s about 4-5 pounds ish maybe? Maybe 5 1/2 or 6 at the most? Anyway they say he can have up to a cc apparently an hour but we want to be safe so half of that at the least.

Sorry for the long post. He is neutered and about 2 years old.

He’s my baby so any help is help!

There are some lesser reviewed emergency Exotic vets or there are some that open at 6-7 am. What should I do?

Can you take his temperature? In addition to fluids and syringe feeding, keeping him warm if he’s cold would be the other supportive care to give until you can get him to the vet. I would focus on fluids (but nothing with a lot of sugar as that can further upset the gut)

If the ER vet sees rabbits, that would be the best bet. If they don’t see rabbits, then keep up supportive care till you can get him in to a rabbit vet. If the ER vet isn’t a rabbit specialist, you can ask them if they can give subcutaneous fluids and pain meds, but I would be wary of having them do anything else (non-rabbit vets can make things worse unintentionally).

              I’m sorry he’s feeling poorly. 🙁

How much of the gas drops are you giving him? He can have 1 ml every hour for a couple of doses and then 1 ml every three hours (Simethicone doesn’t get absorbed by the body so there’s no danger of overdosing). Also I wouldn’t feed him the gatorade mixture, that has tons of sugar in it and is likely to make his stomach worse.

Please let us know how he’s doing.
