  Esther managed to get out of her pen today during Blaze’s out time. I left the room for probably 15 minutes and came back to find Esther in the entrance of Blaze’s pen and Blaze in the back corner of his pen by his box. There’s fur all around the room. I think most of it is Blaze’s. Blaze’s water was spilled. I picked up both buns and looked them over, I don’t see any marks on Blaze, and only a small mark on Esther’s cheek. Other than that, buns are okay, just seem kind of nervous and wary of me after getting picked up and looked over. I’m going to be reenforcing both pens to make sure it doesn’t happen again. What do I do for Esther’s cheek? I feel awful!

  Oh god I feel awful. I feel so damn awful. I hate myself right now. I don’t know if I can do this, I don’t even know if it will work out after this. I feel like I failed them. I wonder if they both would have been better off without me. Oh god I feel awful. They’re my babies and I love them and I let them get hurt and now they’re both hiding in their houses. I think they’re both okay apart from Esther’s cheek but I just ugh. I don’t know how she got out, her pen has been the same for the whole time I’ve had her and she’s never gotten out.

  It’s okay, take a deep breath. Things happen. Rabbits can injure each other severely in a matter of seconds, pulled out fur and a (hopefully) small bite isn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. They’ll be fine, they just need a little time to forget about it.

  Please, don’t blame yourself! You couldn’t have known, and they are both fine. 🙂 Plus, it would be normal to find fur everywhere, and you did the responsible thing and checked them both over, nobody here could’ve done better! Esther’s just a little testy, for this adorable bun just marched right into her place; she’s prone to have temper tantrums! Give Blaze a few pets, and I’m sure he’ll roll over and forget about the whole thing. 😉 Take a deep breath; feel your stomach go out and then in. Sometimes I think bonding is more stressful for the owners, than the buns! 😉
  
  What I like to do in bonding is to create positive and happy moments, with meditative music and happiness; although, there are the occasional times where Silver will *ahem* turn around and, uh, chase one of them. 😳 So, I have definitely experienced what just happened to you, part of bunny bonding! 😉 Don’t worry, I’m sure yours will still bond before mine! 😉
  
  You’re doing great, and just remember, in the end, they will be bonded, and you will finally be able to sleep again! 😛

  These things happen, please don’t beat yourself up! I’m sure they will be fine. If you notice they are acting aggressive towards each other, they may do better with more separation between them (such as moving Blaze to another room) or adding opaque barriers.

  It’s not very deep, just a surface scratch. I think he pulled her fur but it didn’t release and it scratched the skin a bit. It’s not deep, and doesn’t really look like a bite. I’ll be keeping an eye on it. What signs of infection do I watch out for? It doesn’t seem to hurt much, I was poking around trying to get a look and she was fine with it, just a little annoyed.

  Dana, they currently have barriers up so they can’t see each other. I’m planning on taking them away in maybe a week or so, to give them time to get used to each other’s smell.

  I felt the same when Pinky managed to reach Muffin’s nose through the pens before they started bonding sessions and gave him a little scrape with his teeth. He was being crazy cause he wanted food and I didn’t separate the pens far enough! I felt so stupid. But Muffin’s nose was okay and healed. The vet even looked at it and said it was fine. Mistakes happen! They love each other now. Somehow nothing else like that happened again and they got along great.
