I’ve heard that you shouldn’t feed veggies and pellets at the same time because the pellets will mess with digestion. They say you should feed one in the morning and the other at night. Is this true? I’ve been feeding my bunnies veggies first, then when they’re done I’ll give them the pellets. Then they only get hay for the rest of the day and at night. Should I change this?

Also Pinky has been having more soft poops. They’ve also always been dark. Even with different hays and the two bunnies are always on the same hay. What can be a cause of this? Too much protein in hay?

Btw I feed them just in the morning. But hay all the time of course.

I’ve never heard that. I have 3 buns and we’ve had stasis 4 times. There is only one time that I can’t definitively point to someone having eaten something inappropriate as the cause, so as far as I can tell it isn’t harming them. I feed each full sized bun 1/8 cup pellets twice a day and my little guy gets half that. They get their salads at the same time twice a day and they usually eat some pellets, then nibble on some salad and just go back and forth until it’s gone.  Then they usually hit the hay after they finish lol little piggy bunnies.

I also never heard of that! One of my rabbits won’t eat her veggies unless there’s pellets, haha

I’ve been feeding pellets and veggies at the same time twice a day since I got Esther and it seems to be working well for us. This is how the rescue does it as well. I’ve also never heard that. Where’d you hear it?

                  Oh okay thank you guys!

Bu20055 I was watching one of BunniesOfTheBurrow’s old videos and she said she feeds them pellets in the morning and veggies at night because of it. I also read it online somewhere a while ago but didn’t think much of it until I heard it again. Not sure where the info came from!

I feed them separately, but only because I use pellets as a way to get them to go into their condo when playtime is over, but I feed veg earlier in the evening. So it’s more of a tactical thing. 😉

I’ve never heard of such a thing. I think it’s fine to do it whatever way works best. If they prefer having things separate, then that’s OK. Same goes for if they want them together.
