So, I’m pretty new at the bunny mom thing, so this never even came to my mind. Yesterday I brought out my wax melter and started up a nice fall scents, then this morning I used my hairspray. Well, a few minutes ago I read an article about respiratory health in bunnies and now I want to cry! I live in a very small apartment so my bunny Mabel is pretty much subject to everything. I opened windows and have a few fans blowing, but is there anything else I can do to keep her resp. system healthy? Especially now that I’ve subjected her to these things? Thankfully I haven’t done much else besides hairspray, and that’s in the bathroom, which is off limits to her. But the wax?

I’m sure Mabel will be fine! A one-time exposure to a scented wax melter plus hairspray that you used in your bathroom cant have hurt her. Plus you aired it out!

Its not recommended to use essential oil diffusers or incense with rabbits close by, and wax melters would most likely fall into that category. The problem is mainly with long term, frequent use.

I think using hairspray in the bathroom is perfectly fine.

I agree, she will likely be fine. The concern with wax melts, candles, diffusers, incense, etc. is (as Bam said) the essential oils. A one-time exposure isn’t going to hurt anything. The concern is long-term, repeated exposures.

Thanks guys! I had bunnies as a kid and I just decided I needed them back in my life. My bunny Jim died from a brain aneurysm after only a few months of having him and now I am so paranoid with Mabel, everytime I turn around I worry so much, I don’t think I could handle another sudden death
