I just brought my rabbit to the vet to get the RHDV2 vaccination and while she was there I told the vet she had some matted fur near her crotch area. Apparently the vet accidentally cut her while getting rid of the matted fur. She told me there was some light bleeding and that she cleaned the area up so she should be okay, but when I looked at it it looks like a deeper cut to me? I’m not familiar with how their crotches should look so I don’t know if I should get it looked at by someone else.  IMG_4829

It looks clean, it must be kept clean. I would’ve thought this could have been a candidate for gluing, although gluing is pretty painful (it stings), maybe that’s why the vet didn’t opt for that. Stitches would as a rule require sedation, which always comes with its own set of risks.

If you can keep a good eye, clean the wound twice per day and use f ex triple antibiotic ointment (like neosporin, the variety without an added painkiller) or fucidine, this could heal on its own. You do need to keep a close eye though. Did the vet give you any advice on how to care for the wound? Otherwise you could call them and ask for that, they should be able to do that over the phone.

Yikes! What am I even looking at here? I agree with Bam. It looks clean. It could have been glued or stitched, but given the location it might not have held together. Keeping it clean is the best option and using antibiotic ointment will prevent infection. Make sure it is plain triple antibiotic ointment (e.g. Neosporin) that doesn’t have pain reliever in it.
