Hi all, I use shredded paper bedding as litter for my girls but am looking to try something with better odor control for my lop, Alfred. I’ve seen recommendations for wood stove pellets and the tractor & supply sells KILN-DRIED pine wood stall pellets for horses and rabbits. Does anyone have experience with this product? I like to change the litter at least every other day for Alfred as she’s quite a stinky girl and the “paper” pellet litter pet stores sell I would ALWAYS find bits of plastic mixed in. Alfred to taste test so it has to be safe if she eats a nibble.

For myself and mine I usually use Aspen wood shavings, kiln dried. They absorb some water/pee so it doesn’t need to be changed every day and have had no cases of staining or damp rabbit feet from them. Often I won’t even know there is much pee in the box until I shovel it out to change it and lo-and-behold, it’s wet underneath.

Also never had a case of Gi stasis or digestion problems if they nibble. Doesn’t taste great for them so no incentive, also not crunchy. It does start to smell a little if left for multiple days 3+ but its not expensive for a large bag and does the trick for every other day easy.

          Just my two cents xP

A lot of rabbit owners are proponents of the Tractor Supply wood stove pellets… including me, as I have roughly 80lbs of it sitting in my clothing closet? Haha. I have had positive experiences with it. It has a slight odor when it’s been saturated… like a wood smell?.. but it’s not a bad smell and it doesn’t travel outside the box. In terms of functionality, I don’t think it can be beat. A little layer goes a very long way and neither of my rabbits have been enticed to eat it or anything. Since it does break down when wet, I would recommend a litter screen so your rabbit isn’t kicking up saw dust when going in and out of the box.
