I am such a wuss when it comes to nail trims so I had almost always either taken the buns to the vet for nail trims or had the vet tech come to my house and do them.  With the whole COVID thing, I had to start doing them myself.  Anyone who has ever had a bun with black nails knows the fear in this and all three of mine have dark nails (I swear Moshi’s

back nails are almost as big and opaque as my Black Lab’s nails were!)!

Ok, so most of you have heard of the press-press-clip method (Mary Cotter’s video), and black nail bunny parents have heard of using a flashlight, but add this trick in the mix and it is super easy to trim dark nails!

Ready?!  Cut s piece of a mesh lingerie bag (the kind with holes that are about 1/4”) and slide it over bunny’s nails like a  fingerless glove!  The mesh holds the fur back so you can see the whole nail.  Use s flashlight under the nail to get an idea where to start, then do the press-press-clip!

Very nice and helpful! I continue to try this but have yet to find a mesh that has the right size holes! Another nice tip to keep from blinding your eyes is that my rescue’s main nail trimmer actually uses a cheap key-chain light as the quick-checker. Since the light is small and concentrated, it’s not as hugely distracting or leaves sun spots for clipping.
