So I’ve been trying to potty train Bernard since her spay (about a month) and somehow along the way she decided her bed is a litter box and her litter box is a bed. Not really sure what happened but obviously she’s confused. I attached a photo because honestly she was so cute sleeping in it. I put a blanket in the litter box because I thought maybe she liked peeing on absorbent things but that didn’t work. She still sits in her bed sometimes and I really don’t want her sitting in her pee. Any suggestions?

Some bunnies just can’t really have soft beds because they pee on them (my Bertha was like this). So it could be that Bernard is the same.

If you remove all the soft bedding from her pen, will she use her litter box? The pic of her sleeping is so cute. 🙂 Is that her litter box or her bed? I guess if I’m confused it makes sense that she’s confused!

I think I would remove all the soft blankets from her pen for a while and just have bedding in the litter box to see if you can get her habits straightened out. Carefresh is really good for litter training because it’s soft and fluffy, so that might help.

I’ve tried taking the bed away and at first she would use it a couple times but then she would designate somewhere else on the floor to go. But on her half of the room I put blankets or a large rug down because I have hardwood and she can’t walk on hardwood.
In the picture that’s her litter box, I think the blanket could be what confused her.

I took her bed away today and so far she’s been using her litter box 😁

Also she’s been sleeping in it and I used hay until I can get some carefresh and she sneezed two separate times. I’m wondering if it’s because her head is an inch away from dusty hay or if she has some sort of respiratory issue

I don’t think that two sneezes would mean a respiratory infection. Probably just the dust from the hay. 🙂

Ok thanks, it was just two so I’m sure she’s fine.

Also, this is unrelated but is it normal for a rabbit to change colors? I could’ve sworn her ears were darker and now they seem to be turning lighter.

Buns typically change color when they molt, as I always say ‘owning a bunny and a lint roller come hand in hand’ 😉 I also found out recently that Californian rabbits change color seasonal, and it proves to be true, Silver’s ears are a much lighter grey. Bunnies are interesting and beautiful animals.  🙂

Oh that’s interesting, the vet said Bernard was a Californian mix. So that’s probably why. I haven’t seen any shedding yet but I’m sure it will come 😁

Ahh yess, shedding. Here the weather stays pretty mild so I’m hoping neither of my bunnies will shed to heavily this season… Louie has never had a fluffy bed because I’m worried he’ll either pee on it or chew it all up or something, so all his beds are homemade “mats” that I sew and then add another layer of cushy fabric inside, they work pretty well and he enjoy sleeping on them, and they are machine washable too! You might want to try more flat beds and maybe she’ll stop peeing on it and recognize it as a rest spot and not a litter box.

@Louiethebunny That’s a really good idea, I’ll have to see if I can find my old sewing machine. Do you have a picture of one that I can see? If not, no worries 😉

Ahhh.. It’s late here and I don’t have a photo handy but I’ll try to take one and post it here tomorrow.
