Hello everyone, for the past year and a half my poor lion head bun has been going through multiple epsiodes of gi stasis she has not gone longer then two months without having an episode, with a recent discussion with my vet she thinks it may be due to e cuniculi affecting her gut which is causing the chronic stasis issues, back in October 2019 she was treated with panacur and metacam because she started showing symptoms after being hospitalized due to a bad gas episode the vet suggests treating her with panacur again and then keeping her on a low does of a motility med or ranitidine to keep things on track. Has anyone had to treat with panacur multiple times? (vet says some rabbits need to be treated yearly, twice a year, or sometimes every 3 months.

We have had several members who have given their ec buns multiple courses of Panacur. It isn’t considered possible to eradicate ec, but it can often be kept in check with panacur.

EC is still not fully understood  but it is highly likely that it can affect the gut. (This is probably more common than previously believed). We have one member @Asriel&Bombur whose bun Bombur has ec, and his first, very dramatic episode involved his gut. I hope she will see this thread.

Ranitidine is a good rabbit drug, it works both as a protector of the gut lining by decreasing the secretion of hydrochloric acid, and as a gut motility drug. I have a bun who has been on daily ranitidine since October last year.
