Hey everyone, I’m wondering how often I should wash my bunnies’ water bowls. I see people say that they only rinse them out daily when they refill it, and wash them when they get dirty. How often should I run it through the dishwasher? And do I rinse with hot water or cold on the days it doesn’t need washing? Thank you. 🐰🐰

If you rinse them out well daily, the idea is there isn’t a chance to get mold or mildew accumulation, which would require a more intentional scrubbing with a sponge or something. You can usually very easily see/feel if it needs a better wash beyond that (i.e. quick hand wash with dish soap and sponge or a dishwasher). There’s not too much of a need to worry about hot vs. cold water — it’s just a dish like a bowl or plate you use for eating, so as long as whatever means you use to clean it uses soap, friction, and is rinsed thoroughly to remove soap, it is fine.

I don’t really clean out Louie’s water bowl, I just rinse out all the fur and hay he’s gotten in his bowl when I refill it.

I agree with @Wick then, you’ll be able to tell if the bowls need extra cleaning.
