Hello! I took my rabbit to the vet today since I noticed he might of had an eye infection since his corners of his eyes were leaking and he is a lion head rabbit. I assumed his teeth might have overgrown but that doesn’t seem to be the case but they did prescribe me a “ofloxacin ophthalmic solution, usp 0.3%.” I was trying to find some research on this and I did not find any results so I wanted to go straight to forums and find out if anyone has ever had a situation like this where their rabbit’s eye had a slight infection and had to use this? I don’t know much about this and this is my first time giving something to my rabbit.

I have to give it to him daily, 2 drops in each eye, 4 times a day for a week. If anyone can give me any insight or tips and information please let me know! If you need any more information I would be willing to answer those as well.

I have only used fucithalmic eye drops with a rabbit. That worked very well.

I found a study where rabbits were given ofloxacine eye drops to see if the substance harmed the retinal cells (the cells that convey vision). The ofloxacine penetrated into the tissues of the eye but no signs of harm to the retinal cells was found.

I found old forum posts where other BB members had been given ofloxacine drops for their buns, among them Binky Bunny herself, for her bun Vivian.
