Dorian has been shedding nonstop for the past few weeks, and I am noticing his fur color is changing. It is getting a lot more brownish tint to it, from grey to more of a greige, the part right by his ears is just brown actually. It’s not drastic, but still quite noticeable. I don’t mind what color he is, but more just curious if this happens during seasonal molts or if it’s a growing up thing? He’s estimated at a few months over 1 year old, so I just thought he was in his adult fur already.

Also just to whine, will this molt never end? I can give him a couple of good brushes in a day and still end up with a hand covered by very fine fluff. I thought it was all done as his molting ring was at his belly level, but this molts doing its own thing.

Both of my boys’ colors have changed since getting older. Asriel used to be mainly white with a little bit of brown and gray. Now he’s mainly brown and gray with a white belly and legs. Bombur has always been orange, but the older he’s gotten the lighter his orange has become. With every molt their color changes. It’s pretty fascinating to see when you look at younger pictures to now.

@Asriel and Bombur , that’s so interesting! I just always assumed once adults it would stay the same. Will be fun to see the changes!

Many rabbits get a slightly different color during summer. My Bam was black in the winter but got a reddish brown tint esp on his sides during summer.

Their colors do change a bit until they are around 3 or so. When they molt, they often get a “temporary colouring when the guard hairs have been shed and the new growth has only gotten around to renew the wool. Sometimes this temporary color change is quite spectacular!

I save my bun’s shed fur, last Christmas I needle felted a few small-ish Christmas tree ornaments with some of it 🙂

@Bam that’s pretty cool, were they bunny ornaments?

& now I am noticing long white hairs through out his coat, I thought it was loose hairs at first, but nope. No idea what is going on anymore with his coat… though we are both ready for the endless molt the stop now.
