Hello I have two Holland lop sibling pair male and female I rescued at 4weeks old (I know very young the breeder was uneducated and re bread her dam too soon mom started to freak at the babies) they have been together sense birth, noticed some mounting with the female (who’s way bigger than he) and my vet urging me to keep bonded, 12weeks tomorrow he’s going for neuter tomorrow but idk to separate after surgery and re bond after her spay?? Any experience with this?  He has mounted her face but it’s usually when I’m talking sweet to them both lol dominance I think. She won’t b spayed until another month or so

Yes, separate. He can still have viable sperm for up to a month after his neuter so he could get her pregnant. Also, he will probably go through a “hormone spike” after the neuter while his body adjusts, which can make his hormonal behaviors worse. With her likely getting hormonal as well, this can easily lead to fighting.

Also, I would try to find a vet who is more rabbit savvy. The fact that he doesn’t know these things (especially the possibility of him impregnating her after the neuter) is a huge red flag. It makes me doubt his knowledge of rabbits in general, and personally I would not feel comfortable with him doing surgery on my rabbit.

Hi max and rubys mum I agree with hazel you should separate the two so you don’t have any unwanted kits, and it might be a good idea to change to a savvy rabbit vet

(I’ve never owned a rabbit, but I have been researching A LOT)

Thank you so much! That’s wut my gut was telling me. Their 12weeks today so I’m going to separate them until after her recovery from surgery when ever that may be. Everything I’ve read tells me siblings aren’t really bonded until their fixed and I’ve witnessed a pretty annoyed male getting mounted on his head too many times as docile as he is now could take one good fight 🙁 thanks for all your advice!! Maxx is also super small for being 12weeks old he looks like ruby did at 8weeks old so I’m just so nervous for him to be neutered so small is there anything that says a rabbits too small to b fixed?

An experienced rabbit savvy vet should not have a problem neutering a netherland dwarf. As long as the balls have dropped and the vet is comfortable, it should be OK!
