Hello! My name’s Alyssa and I’m the owner of a netherland dwarf named Moni.

Today, Moni had a bit of a mishap- she was caught in a glue trap that I had no idea was even set out because my father hadn’t bothered telling me about it. Nonetheless, I was angry. I immediately took it into my own hands to help Moni- I gave her feet (the only area affected with the glue) a massage with vegetable oil in order to loosen the remaining glue and get it off. I wiped Moni’s feet off with baby wipes after, only to find that I had made a bit of a mess with the oil. I took Moni to my room and attempted to dry off her feet with a mini fan in order to not scare her (I’m not sure how she’d feel about a blow dryer as she is very skittish and weary about loud noises) which didn’t make much of a difference. I wiped her feet with a cool, damp cloth as well but to no avail. Her feet and a tiny bit of fur on the sides of her tummy are still a bit oily- not necessarily drenched, but it is noticeably. Again, I used vegetable oil and she’s grooming herself as we speak.

As for her behavior, she is completely fine- still eating, drinking, hopping around like normal- if anything, I’m more worried about this than she is 😥

Any tips on what I can do, what I should do? Again, it’s only her feet that were affected and massaged with the oil.

Small update since my post was approved: Moni is still doing well, eating hay, hopping around as usual.. she is still grooming herself though (her feet, mainly)

Grooming is actually a very good sign, and she seems to be behaving normally. I would monitor her for a little longer and make sure these kinds of incidents are prevented in the future.

Absolutely- she’s still doing fine and I am still monitoring her. I’ll give another update in the morning, but thank you for your response!

I’m late to this, I hope Moni is still fine and I expect she is. Ingestion of some veggie oil could perhaps cause  some poop weirdness, but nothing really serious. She will perceive it as it dirt and try to groom it off, which is normal and good.

                  Welcome to BB! 🙂

I’m glad Moni is okay. That was a close call, luckily you found her in time. Maybe encourage your dad to stop using glue traps? They are very cruel and as you’ve seen, can also be dangerous (even deadly) for your pets.
