I am not sure what has changed but for the last few months, Joey has stopped playing completely. She was obsessed with her toys but now they just sit in the corner of her cage untouched.

Any suggestions on why a rabbit would stop playing?

Some rabbits just become uninterested with their toys, but if they completely stop playing completely, there might be something causing it. If there were some kind of environmental changes or something stressing your rabbit out, they might not play with them too much. I would monitor her behavior a bit and see if something might be awry.

I know some can become uninterested a few of my rabbits over the years loved toys as babies and then just didn’t like them anymore as adults. But they never just stopped playing completely.

The only thing I can think of that has changed is my dog passing. But they never really interacted. She doesn’t act stressed since she still eats and drinks and binkies. I thought a tooth issue since her favorite activity has always been chewing on cardboard boxes and she doesn’t even do that now. But her vet said her teeth are fine.

              Hey Sonn 👋🏻

I know this sounds odd but could it be because she’s feeling content? My rabbits have never really taken to playing with toys tbh but the times when TimTim (for instance) will chew on items is when he’s kinda ratty or got some excess energy. Or prompting human to top up hay or offer other placating foods… 🙄

Other then that, they occasionally nudge a toy with the nose or toss a stick around. I have sea grass mats fixed to NIC grids to make a small ramp & my pair like to chew those. Everything else is ignored.

Something to try to see if it recaptures her interest is fix some of the toys in the cage bars (???)

I just remembered this after I submitted my 1st reply.  Was it Moonshine that got all weird one time & you finally figured out it was the smell of another rabbit or animal on your clothes that set him off?

I’m just wondering if maybe your cat got in on Joey’s toys? Would that be enough to put her off them or do they hang out a lot.

It isn’t unusual for a bunny to obsess over a toy and then get bored with it. I try to rotate toys so old things become new again.

Jersey it was Moonshine. He did not appreciate me touching outside of the family animals. Gah I miss that big drama baby.

I did not think of the cats getting her toys. She despises my cats. I made her enclosure larger and I am almost certain the cats can now get to her toys. Hmm.

She still chews on her grass mats and the hanging “play center” I got for her. But has just lost interest in anything on the ground. I did catch her tossing around her food bowl earlier today so that was encouraging.

LB I thought the same thing because Pacey used to do that. He would get bored with a toy and stop playing with it. So I would take it and give him something else for a while.

But I rotate her toys regularly so she doesn’t get bored with them.

                        Oh Pacey 🥰

I bet he never got bored with his broom though. 😄
