Hello! So excited to be here and learn more about everyone’s bunny + mine too!

I got a 8 week Holland Lop 4 days ago and I have started litter training her. She actually picked up peeing in the litter box really fast and has only had one accident outside her cage and twice on me (does that mean anything?)

As for pooping, she hasn’t gotten the hang of it yet. I keep on picking up her poop in her cage and placing it in the litter box. She has hay above and in the litter box.

I have noticed that she usually poops next to her food bowl where I feed her pellets which is opposite to her litter box.

Should I continue being patient and picking up her poop and placing it in the litter box? Or should I place her pellet food in her litter box?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Is she spayed? Spaying female rabbits not only makes litter training much easier but also prevents uterine cancer in female rabbits. If she is unspayed, peeing out of the litter box usually occurs because of territorial marking, she could be marking her territory on you. I wouldn’t recommend putting pellets in her litter box. Another step you can do to encourage using the litter box is whenever you notice your rabbit’s tail lifting, that means she is about to go, and you can scoop her up and place her in the litter box. Adding a treat for a good job is always good too.

I think you are doing things right. It’s difficult to properly litterbox train an unspayed rabbit, once she hits puberty she’s likely to start pee- and poop marking. But it’s still good to try to install good litterbox ha it’s in her while she’s still  very young.

You can place both her pellets bowl and some hay in her litter box. Bunnies often like to munch while they do their business. It’s good that pick up her poops and put them back in the box, it helps her understand where poop should be.

That she peed on you could either mean she was very scared by your handling her,  or that she found it very comfy to be near you. Rabbits do like to pee on people they like, but shes still a bit too young to do regular pee marking.

Thanks for all the help! I will get her spayed once she’s old enough. I added some hay in the litter box today and I’ll continue placing the poop in the litter box and hopefully she will understand that’s where she has to go! Once she hits puberty, I’ll figure it out all over again 😂
