Got a 7 week old little bunny, he’s awesome but poops everywhere, with every hop there is a poop. I’ve provided a corner littler box in his cage, provided a litter box downstairs in the living room, he hops in both so he’s not angry at either. But he poops….all the time. I know he’s young, I want him to explore the space, my home is his home, but I’d love to not have to pick up 400 turds a day. Suggestions?

There is really isn’t much you can do but limit his space for now. His instinct -especially in the coming weeks when his hormones rise- is to mark everywhere. I suggest setting up either an exercise pen or allowing him in a smaller space/room where you can sweep the floor after he’s has poop-bombed it. I know it’s harder to hang out with them when they’re penned up…

It’s only temporary, as the litter habits improve & they get a bit older, they can have more access to roaming space again.

If you plan to keep him as your only rabbit, neutering isn’t absolutely necessary for a male rabbit but it can help with hormonal behaviours, so it’s definitely something to consider.

Are you placing hay on the litterboxes he has? They tend to do a lot of their poops when they’re sitting in the box eating hay. That might help him deposit most of them there… but baby bunnies are poop machines, so no promises!

Pooping indeed is something he’ll want to do and as mentioned, it will probably reduce over time. He’s in a new place and as a prey animal, he wants to make it feel secure and safe. A big part of that is marking so he smells his scent around… thus the poop.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, he’s the only one and I’m a first timer so I’m trying to research as much as possible. It’s a learning experience! H’es becoming so curious and I love it, so I want to give him space to explore his new home, he discovered the wonderful world of our stairs last night and it’s been hilarious!!

                He sure sounds cute!

You might hit a grace period where he doesn’t poop everywhere so much but usually that goes out the window when they hit “puberty”. That’s when owners often have to restrict where they go for the time being. At one time, I had 4 male foster rabbits in pens side-by-side and I had to wash the walls once they’d all gone to homes.
