Ok so I have 2 dogs(chihuahua’s) and a free roam rabbit(New Zealand white) who are the best of friends. My dogs use wee pads in the house my rabbit pretty much taught himself how to use the wee pads after smelling the area after my dogs used it. Lately my rabbit has been laying on the wee pads both before and after my dog uses it. It’s strange because he never did this before. Sometimes my dogs try to use the pad and can’t because he’s laying on it lol! Why does he do this? He’s my first rabbit so I’m not familiar with rabbit behavior and some insight into his behavior is welcomed

hi, I’m not sure why he is laying on the wee pad maybe because it smells like your dogs? you might want to try lightly spraying half vinegar half water onto the pad (I got a holland lop about 5 months ago and this helps when I don’t want him on my bed) and you might want to get a litter box for your rabbit filled with hay on one side.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely try that out. That’s the weird thing he does have a litter box I use a closed litter box and fill half with shredded paper and the other half with his hay (I got the idea from Lennon the bunny). But every now and then he would just go over to the wee pad and lay on it. I would say he’s been acting this way for the past 3 months. This isn’t his only weird behavior every morning he also jumps and runs all over the wee pad messing it up. It’s become a ritual for him lol! I’m starting to think I just have a weird bunny lol!!

haha I got my litter box idea from Lennon the bunny to! does he get enough exercise and or play time with your dogs? (he seems pretty in love with that wee pad lol) that’s funny that he does it every morning my bunny takes a mouth full of hay and drops it in my lap at night after I feed him so maybe its just your bunnies personality!

I watched her vids a lot before getting him ^^ lol! That’s cute in his bunny mind he’s probably saving some leftovers for you. Yeah he does this every morning first thing even before he eats is run straight to the wee pad and runs around messing it up lol! He gets full run of the house and sometimes chases them around but not much. He does tend to get a little lazy in the afternoon. I use a little treat ball filled with his favorite treats to get him to chase it for exercise too. Are there any other ways I can get him a little more interested in exercise?

I put Enzo (my bunny) on the ground and kind of heard him around indigently nudge him with my feet Im not sure if there is a better way though because he is pretty lazy lol

Rabbits normally spend a rather large part of the lay being “lazy”. They are at their most active in the mornings and evenings. Animals that have this activity-pattern are known as crepuscular animals. So you dont have to activate a bun who is lazy in the afternoon -he’s just being true to his rabbit nature. They tend to eat less and poop significantly less during this “slow” phase.

How old it he? He might be trying to mark the pee pads with his own scent.

I suggest taking the top off his litterbox for a while to encourage him to go in there more. Rabbits can tend to avoid things that have only one entry/exit point. It’s why they like hidey-boxes to have 2 holes and if it only has one, they’ll often make the second one themselves. 😉
