        Hi

I spotted my bunny had bumps underneath his nails. He is a mini lop dwarf lionhead and he is kept indoors. He has blankets in his cage with wood pellets for his litter tray. I now have put blankets on my carpet to help his paws because I read somewhere it could be the carpet.

I’m not sure if this is normal I was putting a tiny amount of sudocrem on them to help.

He had slight sore hocks on back legs but thats under his fur so I’m not too concerned as his fur has grown over them and they arent bad.

I just wondered what these were under his nails and whether I should ask the vet.

        I’ve included pictures aswell.

        Thank you!

This could be abrasion from unsuitable flooring material, in which case it will heal up now when you’ve put on sudocream and put blankets over the floors. Lionheads are very furry, but their fur is super soft and they are somewhat prone to sore hocks.

There is however a type of mites that like attacking the area around the nails first of all. I’m only mentioning it because sore hocks on the fore paws is unusual, and this seems concentrated to around the nails. With mites your see flaky skin around the nails though. Burrowing mites are found around the world, but how common it is in rabbits varies a lot between countries and regions. It’s not something we often see on these forums, just now I can only recall one case and that was in the Philippines.

Treatment for mites is injections with ivermectin or spot-on Revolution.

(Not that you would, but we always give this warning when there’es mention of parasites on buns: Never use any compound containing fipronil on a rabbit. It’s deadly toxic to rabbits but fine for cats and dogs. It’s very common and sold under many different brand names, for example Frontline.)

            Hi

Thank you for your response. I have put blankets now because I didnt realise about my carpet could cause it.

I havent noticed any dry flakes round his nails? Is there any other signs that it could be mites as his fur seems okay?

Ik he has very soft fur but I love him even so haha

Here is some good info on burrowing mites, but I must warn you, there are some nasty pictures if you scroll down. Thankfully these mites are very sensitive to ivermectin. http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Skin_diseases/Parasitic/Mange/Sarcoptes.htm

Lionheads are so, so lovely and soft 💗 My very fluffy teddy lionhead got sore socks last winter, luckily covering my rugs with softer materials helped a lot, but I always have to keep an eye of course.

Thank you. I will have a look through the article. I’m not sure if it is that as he has no dry skin.

                  Hi

Just looked through that website about mites. And Reggie definitely doesnt have any of the symptoms or any of the pictures do not look like that and it’s nearly been a week since I spotted these bumps

                  Thanks
