        Hello!

My bun Keiji has some skin issues lately, but he’s still eating, drinking and playing…I noticed a little puff of fur sticking out near his bum, so I pulled on it, came out super easy and all he did was a little twitch. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain, but he scratches a lot and grooms a lot.

I have another bun Mia, and she’s perfectly fine, she has absolutely nothing wrong with her fur or skin, so I’m wondering maybe it isn’t mites but not sure.

        Here are some pics!

          Hi Shanni

The links are not opening to photos, just the photo box front page. I’ll DM you to see if you can sent the photos to me and I can add them here for you. Unfortunately, the forum isn’t allowing photo upload at the moment. It’s on the fix list!

It does look like the new fur is growing in but there is some flakiness. Rabbits can get some dry skin but yes, this could also be fur mite. You’d need a vet to check under microscope to confirm. Vet appt might not be  easy to book at the moment. If you check where the new fur is in a few days and it keeps disappearing, then it’s more likely mites.

Fur mite is easily treated with a spot-on treatment Selamectin. It’s known as Revolution or Stronghold. You could go ahead and treat him if it’s available where you are.

Hmmm, but aren’t mites highly contagious?? Mia has nothing at all and they are always snuggling close together. 😕☹

Sorry, I edited my reply a few times.

Ive had a rabbit pair where one had mild case of mites a few times and his bunny mate didn’t. He had some health problems so his immune system wasn’t as strong.

Oooh really? Hmm….I’ll take him to the vet of course. Thanks for replying!
