Hi everyone! Just wondering how many times I should feed my bunny.

I usually give him pellets right in the morning and leafy greens around 12. He always has a lot of hay.

I would like some recommendations on if I should be giving him more food. Mind you he’s 4 months old.
        Thanks ! 😀

Generally you should be giving greens twice a day, but I do understand he is isn’t an adult bunny yet. Once he is an adult he should be eating unlimited amounts of hay, all throughout the day. Once he’s an adult he should be getting 1/4 cup (per 6 pounds of body weight) a day of pellets, although you can do less. Some people choose not to feed any pellets. Make sure Timothy Hay is the first ingredient. You can always split this into 1/8 (per 6 pounds of body weight) cup per meal if you wish. Generally, bunnies should be eating twice a day. (I don’t own a rabbit but have done lots of research and am working up the courage to ask my parents.) I think usually you should feed 2 cups of greens per meal once he is full grown. You can always give him treats throughout the day, as long as they are natural and safe. I’m sure Dana or one of the other moderators could help as well. 😁

Young, growing bunnies should be free-fed. This means “unlimited” access to pellets and hay.

Hi im in the same boat unsure how many times to feed them, they are 14 weeks and i feed them a handful of pellets in a morning, bowl full of greens at dinner time then a handful of pellets before i go to bed at 9ish, does that seem ok?

Most bunnies under the age of 7 months should have unlimited pellets. I think 101Rabbits has a video on young bunny diet. You can probably just search Young Rabbit Diet 101Rabbits on YouTube. Hope this helps!😁

As a rule, you fill the pellet bowl up, then replenish when the bun has eaten all of it. Young rabbits should be free fed, but some buns are total pigs and cant be trusted with unlimited access to pellets. It is good to weigh young buns weekly and keep a weight chart. They should gain steadily and rather rapidly, sometimes quite amazingly rapidly. Weighing is especially important if you have two buns living together. I weigh my rabbit in a bowl on normal kitchen scales. This of course works best for smallish buns.

Hay and water should be available 24/7 for all rabbits regardless of age. That way there’s always something to munch on, a rabbit’s stomach should never be empty. Contrary to what one might think from just looking at hay, it has a lot of good nutrients. The ample fiber in hay is absolutely vital for good dental and tummy health, both long and short term.

I wasnt sure about unlimited pellets i had to reduce them abit as i noticed they wasnt eating much hay but now the both eat a massive pile daily! They have fresh water every day, i was just wondering about the greens they have should that be once a day or twice

Oh! Ok! I’d say give greens twice per day, because it’s such a happy moment for them. Health wise it doesn’t matter.

I know you didn’t really ask about fruits, but generally you need to wait until they are 7-8 months to introduce those. (They can be fed as a treat and many bunnies LOVE banana.)

Ok thanks bam for the advise. Michaela it might be abit late for that as my daughter was sat in garden with a bowl of sliced apples and one of the bunnys pinched one and ran off. It was a funny moment tbh i heard my daughter cry and then saw the bunny zooming off with a slice of apple😂

😂I’m sure one slice of apple won’t hurt,  bunnies obviously love apple too. I bet your bunny was really happy after that slice of apple.
