She’s 1.5 yrs, free roam, spayed. She’s never really been affectionate and giving kisses, but lately she always hides under the bed or under furniture. 1 time she sits in the open (her favorite spot), then I try to pet her, she immediately hops off and go under the bed again.

I’m really worried. She drinks water, poops, even though some poops are rather dark I’m not sure why. She eats hay too.

Even though she sleeps hiding, she’s always sprawled out or laying on one side. So she’s not hunched up or anything.

Is she okay? Or is she just sick of me and don’t want to be near me 😅, should I try rebonding with her?

This is a tough one!  How long has she been hiding out for?  And can you tell if she’s eating and pooping about the same amount as normal?

With my bunnies, hiding more than usual has usually come with gastrointestinal stasis/slowdown, but that doesn’t mean that’s necessarily what your bunny has.

Mine have also gone through phases of preferring to hide, and usually do that for at least part of the day.  My boy Teddy has never fully warmed up to human affection, and to this day (after almost 11 years!) sometimes tries to avoid being petted.  With him, I try to help him feel safe by asking him “Can I pet you a little?” in the same tone of voice every time I want to attempt it, and make a tentative move toward him, and then pause to see how he reacts.  If he tries to move away a bt, I just say “OK!” and move away without touching him.  Over time, this has helped him learn he’s OK to hang out in the open and he doesn’t have to automatically evade me if I come near.  (Maybe 1/2 or 1/3 of the time, he does let me pet him, and sometimes even grinds his teeth with appreciation.)

My first bunny got an attitude until I got her a friend (Teddy), and then she was much sweeter and more affectionate because she was happy.  Is that a possibility for you?  Just a thought.

Some rabbits get into a bit of a funk pre-molt or while they are molting. Is the more fur coming off currently?

We’ve had a few members post lately about seeing some hormonal behaviours in desexed rabbits. This can often be attributed to “spring fever”.  I wonder if your girl has had some minor hormonal change due to season and she’s “moody” so to speak. It reminds me of when my 1st rabbit reaches 5 months old and age suddenly would hide away much more. It was most likely due to new hormones. Maybe adult rabbits can react in same way to the little rise in hormones they can get due to seasonal changes.

As Meg said, it is something to keep a close eye on in case it’s health related. I’m glad she is eating & toileting well otherwise. If that changes, something more is afoot.

“Is she okay? Or is she just sick of me and don’t want to be near me 😅, should I try rebonding with her?”

Your question here made me wonder – are you are home more then usual due to pandemic restrictions? Because it could be something to do with when you’re trying to engage her…Is that different from when you did before?

When I had just 2 house buns, they had a pretty regular pattern of disappearing for the day between 10am-3pm. Going into a hidey-box in corner of the living room to sleep. Around 3 or 4 pm, they would start to move around the house more and allow more interaction with me.
