        Hi,

I’m a new bunny owner and my bunny is just over 3 months old. I noticed some small white dots on his back today and took a closer look and found some really flaky skin on the nape of his back. I have googled it and most seem to be coming up with mites and wondered if anyone had any other thoughts?

I’ll be calling the vets tomorrow to take a look but they aren’t seeing anyone but emergencies with covid-19 I don’t think so wondered if anyone had any advice.

He seems to be malting a little, but haven’t noticed him overly scratching.

        Thanks 😊

If he is molting, then it could just be dry skin. Some bunnies will develop dry flaky skin, particularly in areas where the fur is thin when they are molting. If it were me, I would just keep an eye on it. If it doesn’t improve after the fur has shed, then you can always have a vet take a look at that time to make sure it isn’t mites or something.

Yeah my rabbit Bella has dry skin on her ear. I would just keep an eye on it. 🙂

Thank you for the advice! That’s really helpful. I feel like a worrying mum 😂. Should I be brushing him more during this time? At the moment we brush him once a week.

If he is losing a lot of fur, then yes, you should try brushing him as much as you can. Different bunnies molt differently. Some will shed small amounts continuously, while others will “blow their coats” and shed everything in a relatively short amount of time. If your bunny is the latter, then it’s best to stay on top of it.

That’s great! Thank you so much for the information, it’s really appreciated. I’ll brush him some more this week. 😊
