I just got a mini lops yesterday afternoon I have never had a bunny before. He is very active little guy but he is constantly cleaning himself and he is just now starting to poop but only a little here and there. He does eat and drink. He had almost a 4 hour car ride to come home and I know that can stress him but I am worried that something might be wrong with him because of the not pooping that much.

Aww congratulations ! How old is he?

You’re right, car rides can be stressful & he may not feel like eating the usual amount due to that.

Does he have hay? You’ll probably find he’ll do a lot of his poops when munching away on hay. It might be at certain times of the day or night.

Occasional poops here and there could be him marking the space, especially if they’re not in a litter box.

He does have hay, as much as he could want. He is a year. I am just worried because I saw on line that if he does not take normal poops poop in 12 hours something could be wrong with him. They are just like 3 little pearls.  Could he just be very stressed out at the moment and he needs some time to get used to all of us.  I’m just worried and want to make sure he stays as healthy as possible.

How long has it been since he arrived home?

If he’s eating well, then the poops should come. One of my buns doesn’t tend to poop that much during the day, and they sometimes get smaller in the middle of the day. Then at night he’s a poop machine. You can try offering some very wet leafy veg (like cilantro) to make sure he’s hydrated and try to get things moving a bit more.

It’s definitely something to watch as a new rabbit owner. The real concern is when they stop eating AND pooping. If that had been 12 hours then it would warrant a visit to the vet. Because your guy has been eating, i do think it’s due to his settling in. Hopefully by now his gut is functioning at a normal pace and you’ve seen a lot more healthy poops.

How do you have his habitat set up?  Type of litterbox and litter?

I wonder if he’s just got really great litter habits and is not familiar with where he should be going in his new home?

That’s great! We’d of course like to see a picture of him eventually! 🙂
