Bombur being Bombur, I think has been quite stressed from the move to Rhode Island, and I think he can tell we’re about to move again in 4 days. His EC issues have been flaring up again pretty bad. I’ve cleaned his bum more times than I can count, so he’s probably going to need a sanitary shave. He’s been dribbling like crazy and just piddling everywhere. He’s got his classic hallmark sign of constantly drinking too. Little man has been having less than ideal poops too, but still eating everything in sight from hay to pellets to greens to treats. Bombur’s regular vet isn’t available during the month unfortunately, so hopefully we can just pick up his meds real quick and be on our merry way.
Poor bun. I feel so bad for him. I mean you wouldn’t know he was sick looking at him, but I can’t help but wonder if he’s actually in pain.
(((((Bombur)))))
I’m sure you know by now how to deal with this, what what meds to give him etc, hopefully that will put him back on the right track swiftly! A good appetite is so important, thankfully he seems to have that. ?
Ahhh Bombur! Sending all the healing and good vibes! Moving can be so stressful for everyone in the family.

Oh Bombur! I hope you can get his meds quickly and get him back on his way to recovery
I am sorry he isn’t doing well. All the positive furry vibes to you guys
Poor Bombur. Sending lots of healing vibes. Hope he recovers soon x
Sending all the vibes from here!!! Get well Bombur!!!!!!
Poor Bombur
(((((Vibes)))))
{{{{{(((((Bombur)))))}}}}} vibes for you little guy! Feel better soon and I hope your move and transition goes smoothly
Get well soon Bombur and all the best with the move! He probably isn’t in pain if he has such a great appetite and isn’t hunching or looking tired all day, so don’t stress yourself too much <3
Sweet pea… things will very soon be more settled and he’ll be able to relax into his routine and personal space again. And in the meantime, he couldn’t be in better hands. Please give him a nose boop from Chewie and a snoot rub from me. (((Bombur)))
Thank you everyone and buns <3 Means the world to both of us! Little man was quite the cuddle bun last night, so he definitely knows something is up (not that he isn't usually a cuddle bun xD). Will keep everyone updated either here or instagram… hoping to be back on that soon with lots of pictures of the boys!
Poor little lad. I know my girl picks up on our moving too, which is such a pain, but unlike you guys she doesnt have an underlying condition.
Hopefully with enough reassuring cuddles he’ll settle down a bit, and that this will be the last move for a good while!
Well said Dface
Vet called back today and said she wants to hold off on his meds for the next few weeks and see if it levels out. If it’s not better by his nail trim on the 20th, then she’ll give him the meds. I love his vet to no end, but I’m a tad frustrated because this has been going on for a couple of weeks already, and I hate seeing him suffer for a few more.
Awwww I haven’t been able to get on in a while (family stuff with my poor momma), and I finally do and the first thing I see is this…
Sooooo much good vibes to both {{{{{{{ Bombur}}}}} and YOU too!!!!
Moving is already stressful enough with out throwing a sick fur baby in to the mix!!!
So many big Hugs to you A&B
Thanks love <3 Hope everything is getting better on your end with you momma! I know how that can be. Send a PM if you ever need to talk friend.
Oh Bomby <3 I didn't see this yesterday during my wallpaper panic.
Do you think you should challenge the vet’s opinion re: holding off on the meds? You know your bun best. Poor little fluffy lump xxx

Awww thanks love! You’re the best! She’s not doing the best – just like your Bombur – you just take it one day at a time, do the best you can and love them lots! xoxo
Holding off on EC meds to see if symptoms level off? That’s just nuts. An ongoing infection is normally causing permanent damage to kidneys or the nervous system, and they heal poorly or not at all. You are right and the vet is wrong.
Best vibes to you and Bombur!
Holding off on EC meds to see if symptoms level off? That’s just nuts
Im not actually hugely familiar with the ins and outs of EC, but Ive had chronic rabbits and this decision isnt uncommon.
Treatment for these type of things are limited(although i know they are working on more) , and for a young rabbit in particular you don’t want to be creating immuno resistance, especially as his stress wont end until the move is over, so he won’t necessarily benefit as much from the treatment as long as his stress is high and his immune system compromised.
That said weeks seems excessive, if there is any deterioration its not worth holding out, or if he is becoming increasingly distressed. Id really push for them after the move if the symptoms haven’t settled within a few days, rather than weeks.
Oh wow, did the vet give a reason? Is it the risk of bone marrow suppression they’re concerned about? Are they hoping hell be strong enough to fight this himself?
I know you love this vet and they have been great with Bombur in the past, but it seems a scary long time to wait a few whole weeks.
Would it be useful to have blood tests done? Urinary issues can of course have other causes than EC.
She thinks it could potentially level off after the move. Their nail trims aren’t until the 20th. i honestly have no idea how long he’s been going at this for either. Because when we move he does usually urine mark (Asriel doesn’t), but now that’s we’ve been in this place for 2 months it’s hard for me to still be like “Oh yes, he’s simply marking.” His bum is constantly soaked and has hay stuck to it, and it’s getting to a point where I can’t even pet him near his bum without him thinking I’m going to dry him off. I feel like he’s going to have a nasty scald by the time the vet does get to him.
Bam: I did think about UTI, but we’ve all noticed a pattern in Bombur that when his stress levels go up it’s usually an EC flare-up. The Oxibendazole kicks in and works within a week. She’s always given antibiotics at the same time just in case it could be a two-fold thing.
But to me, 2 weeks seems like a long time for him to deal with it. I know it’s unlikely, but I’m always so worried it’s going to get bad enough that one day I’ll wake up or get home from work and he’ll have a head tilt or completely not be able to use his hind legs,
I too would suspect it is EC, I was thinking more in the lines of excluding another cause, for example a UTI so your vet would reconsider and put him back on the oxibendazole. It doesn’t seem quite right for a vet to just let him hop around soaked in pee and wait and see if it gets better =/
Even if he eventually will be happier in your new home, there’s always a settling-in period, no matter how great the new place is.
This is difficult, seeing that it is a vet that has been great in the past. Maybe you even should consider a second opinion?
I agree. Two weeks is a long time for a poorly bun.
A few days, I would’ve agreed, but weeks is another matter altogether.
I’m going to see if on Sunday I can take him to another vet in the area. I know I’ll have to explain his whole shebang, but hopefully they’ll just give the meds and not make us urine and blood test him to confirm the diagnosis he’s already had for a year.
You know your bun better than anyone. At the very least I would ask her to give you the meds and if YOU feel that you can hold off a bit then do that. Otherwise at least you have the meds at YOUR disposal to treat your baby.
Called 3 vets and unfortunately no one will straight up just give him the meds. They wanna run the whole gambit and test for UTI and kidney/bladder issues and EC before they put him on meds. So I guess my best option at this point is waiting until the 20th. If he’s not better by next Friday (6 days post move) then I’m gonna call back and see if I can get the meds for the 13th
pardon my french, but jackholes! Good luck, I will be thinking about you all.
Oh bother!!!
Please Bombur, be strong!
