We have a 7 month old Netherland Dwarf bunny named Ruby who lost her sister a couple of months ago and recently adopted a potential husband for her. He is a 4 month old mixed breed (he is large and possible mixed with flemish). When we spoke to the lady we adopted him from she said size doesn’t really matter it just depends on personalities, which they both weren’t the dominant rabbit out of their groups and are both very similar in terms of confidence/affection levels.

Ruby is spayed and Storm is booked to be neutered next week and we were wondering if after a month or so after his surgery is it possible that they could be bonded?

I only ask as when I watch videos of rabbits bonding/see photos of bonded rabbits they are always the same breed or same size, and ruby is about the same size as storms ear! I would love to upload photos of them but am not sure how to!

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Size does not really matter, as compared to personality, as you’ve heard. I volunteer for House Rabbit Society, and I’ve spoken to bonders about this because I have a nethie, and they said it doesn’t matter at all!

That’s what I thought! Thank you.

I was just worried as I have never seen any rabbit bloggers with different sizes and considering Ruby is about the size of Storms ear and he isn’t fully grown yet!

I agree that it’s the rabbits’ personalities that dictate whether they will like and bond with each other, not size or age. A problem that could come up is at feeding time, since the large rabbit will need to eat a lot more than a Dwarf rabbit would need to eat. If Ruby started eating some of Storm’s portion, she would likely become overweight.
