Hey Cathy – about litter training – I think this is an idea I saw posted here before – what sort of litter do you have in the litter box? i wonder if she’d like another type? i use something called “carefresh”, it’s a really fluffy type of litter. I put it in one end of the pan, and a lot of hay on the other end.

About litter training – when my bun first came in my home, thought she was going mostly in the litter box, she still kept going out of it too, a lot. I spent a few afternoons where i was watching over her like a hawk, and every single time she left a pellet, i put it in the litter box (and made sure she saw me doing this) and encouraged her right away to go to the litter box, then i kind of sat there until she finished in the litter box. it was really exhausting for a couple of days and thought the situation would never get fixed, but now she almost never goes outside the litter box ever. i don’t know if my own situation would translate to yours but maybe this could be helpful!

hey about the oats per day – have you had a chance to get pebbles to a good bun vet?  the reason i ask is because i was able to ask a lot of dietary questions to mine and she was very helpful.  if pebbles is new, might be good to get him to a vet for an initial check up   but make sure it’s a vet experience with bunnies  i take my bun to the vet this coming week – i can ask her about the oats if you’d like!

How is your litter box setup? Do you have hay in his box/boxes to encourage him to go in his box? That’s usually the best option.How often do you clean his litter box? Some buns don’t like going in a messy box. My boys are fine with a once a week clean out, but a lot of others will get quite fussy after 2-3 days, 

As for diet, how big is he/do you know his breed? Buns under 5 pounds should be given 2 tbsp of pellets a day, and over 5 pounds should be given 1/4 cup of pellets a day. Pellets are really meant as a supplement. Hay and leafy greens should be the majority of their diet (hay obviously is most important. 1 tbsp of oats really is a bit much every day, especially because it can cause weight gain and can lead to digestive issues.If you’re going to lure him back in, just a few little kernels should be enough.
