My bunnies went in today for their neutering. I expected to come home with two of my beautiful fur babies but only returned with one. After a successful surgery I was due to pick them up at 4:15 but due to circumstances my mum and brother ended up going at 6:30. When they got there they were taken into the room and told he had passed at 5:30. It came as such a shock as he was such a boisterous little bun with so much energy and life in him. My other vin who is the same age had grown up with him from birth and so he has now lost his best friend too just like I have lost mine. I’m not sure what to do and I know that he’s going to get lonely but I’m not going to get another bun due to the pain of this. I was so ready to have two neutered bunnies ready to be bonded for life I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know how to stop ginger from being feeling lonely and he won’t stop looking around for his best friend I don’t know what to do please any advice on how to get him used to being alone would really help

I’m so very sorry this happened.

The best thing you can do for your bun now is to try and spend as much time as you can with him. You dont necessarily have to interact with him all the time, but he should be in the same room as you as much as possible. Keep a close eye on his appetite and poop, but I’m sure you’re doing that anyway because of the surgery.

His first night home you should make sure he eats something before you go to bed for the night. Wet greens or fragrant herbs are often the first thing they want to eat post surgery. If he doesn’t eat on his own, you can syringe feed him Critical Care or pellet mush (pellets soaked in water).

He might benefit from a warm water bottle that he can snuggle up to if he wants it, but he must have enough space so he can move away from it if he doesn’t want extra heat.

Also serve water in a bowl if he normally has a bottle he might not feel up to bothering with a bottle.

It’s good if you can sleep in the same room as he at least this first night.

Again I’m really sorry for your loss. It’s so sad and so unfair.

This is really sad to read. Im so very sorry your lost him, especially under these circumstances. Bam is right, this is so unfair.

Your bunny has to recover from surgery and deal with the loss of his friend. Give him as much love and attention as possible.

                Binky free little one. xx

So sorry for your loss. You were doing the best for your bunnies and this seems so unfair. Share some love with Ginger, you both deserve it.
