Basically my bun has a few lumps of matted fur most of the lumps were away from her skin so i just snipped them off however, theres a lump of fur really close to her skin that’s all matted and tangled, is it really necessary to cut asap? she doesn’t appear to be in any pain when i mess with the lump of fur(she sits while i stroke her head as i feel it around the back of her. Is it okay to wait til it grows away a bit more from the skin so its easier to cut off?

          Hi there.
You should never cut a matt off of an animal with scissors. When you pull the matt from the skin, you stretch the skin and you could cut a hole in their skin without even realizing it. What I do for my bunny is I use a comb and lightly tug at the top of the matt, detangling it little by little. Do not start at the bottom of underneath the matt and just pull up because you will really hurt the bun.
If you wait until it just grows, the matt will just get bigger and bigger and grow more uncomfortable for the bunny, possibly tugging at the skin so much she won’t want to move

This is the comb that I use:

Hope this helps! Good luck with grooming

mats are quite painful for animals. In the past I have used it was either cornstarch or some kind of powder (you will have to google for the substance) you rub a little into the mat and gently try to work it out.

Okay so i did try and pull some mats apart from my bunny bottom, but because she had urine problems its made the knots hard and intangible, atliest by hand, do you have any advice then since i am not suppose to cut?

You can take bunny toe nail clippers and clip the hair, scissors aren’t recommended because they can take a chunk out of the bun but toe nail clippers are fine!
