My bunny is 9.5 years old (very old) and her back lags are paralyzed, she can barely move and seems to be sick. We took her to the vet and he gave us something that helps her but my mom has noticed on the last few days that she might start having scabies. I saw pics of it and she said it can make me sick too so I shouldn’t touch her. What can I do because I don’t want to lose my bunny in such a horrible way (without petting her anymore). She will see a vet in 2 days. Thanks for the support

Scabies is caused by mites and they are highly treatable with Revolution (selamectin) or ivermectin. Both these anti-parasitics are bunny-safe and very effective.

If you are in the USA, Canada, Europe or Australia, manage is rare in house rabbits. Fur mites are far more common. Treatment is selamectin or ivermectin. Fur mites can cause itching in humans, but they cant live on us. I’ve had a rabbit with fur mites, I did 2 rounds of treatment and the mites never returned.

Because were discussing anti-parasitics, I’d like to issue our standard warning: Never use any compound containing fipronil on a rabbit. Its sold under many different brand names, for example Frontline. It’s fine for dogs and cats but deadly toxic to rabbits.
