Very very very rarely, I’ll find blood stains on my rabbit’ss rug… not a lot, it doesn’t look alarming or anything, but when I check her she doesn’t seem to have any injury or blood on her, so I don’t know where that blood comes from. Do rabbits bite themselves when grooming or something? Because I have no clue what’s causing that!

Are you certain it is blood? Specks does sound like it could be blood, but red pee is common in rabbits and many are the bun owners that have mistaken red pee (which is normal) for blood. You can do a test by dropping hydrogen peroxide on a stain. If it foams, its blood. If it doesn’t foam, it’s not blood.

If it really is blood, there are a few possible sources I can think of:

Rabbits can break nails, som rabbits have brittle nails that break easily. If the break is at the quick there will be some bleeding.

Is your rabbit spayed? If not, she could have a uterine problem that a vet needs to check out.
It is recommended that you spay girl buns, they have a high risk of uterine problems around age 3-4 and above.

Another option is a UTI. That too is something a vet should look into.

Hi, also, just another thought… and I’m only putting this one out there bcz this happened to me….
For a while I thought I was seeing small blood stains after Bun was in her den at night but it ended up being staining from occasional wet cecotropes. I was so worried but then I found out it wasn’t blood at all….so try the Hydrogen peroxide test.
