Hello everyone, hope you are all well and your rabbits.

I have a question, in a few weeks my Mummy will be doing a charity event for McMillan Nurses, these people help people who have Cancer, they also help families and even friends who look after them, the event will be to get these people some money so they can help other people.

What my Mummy will be doing is eating Crickets, Locusts, Meal worms and Buffalo Worms.

My question is, have any humans here tried them? If so what are they like? I won’t be taking part in the event, I will watch and have some tasty Mint and Curly Kale.

Lots of those bugs are commonly eaten around the world, just generally not in the countries usually frequented by people of this site, haha.

I’ve heard positive things about crickets. They also lend themselves well to being flavored and keeping flavor, which I think speaks to them not being so potent in taste themselves.

What an adventure your Mummy will be going on!!

I ate scorpion and snake while I was in China. Big fan of scorpion. Kinda tastes like bacon. Maybe that’ll help give you what a cricket flavor might be like?

Bas tried them, and he thinks they taste quite bland, like shrimp without the slightly fishy taste. He thinks they need some spices to make them more interesting.
As much as I love to try new foods, I’m hesitant about insects. Not because I don’t like the idea, but because I have coeliac disease. From other animals you’d only eat parts, but insects are eaten whole, stomach contents included. I’d have to know specifically what they feed the insects, and so far I haven’t seen any info about that on labels.

Hi Ellie, I too have Coeliac disease, according to my Doctor bugs are fine.
Asriel, you ate Scorpion and Snake? Not for me, I used to work in an all ages and languages chat room and we were all on camera, I didn’t quite like watching meal times in certain countries, it seemed very odd to me what they ate, but they might think its odd if we eat lamb beef and pork, my partner ate Tarantula in a country which we will be visiting on our way to our holiday after we get married, so I told him, “No 8 legs, lets stick to Sushi.”

hahahaha scorpion was much harder to eat than the snake. There’s this street in Beijing called the Lantern Street. It’s beautiful, and you can get all sorts of traditional Chinese goods there. The first quarter of the street is all authentic food stands. The scorpion is live on the spic still moving, and they grill it up right in front of you.

I don’t suggest trying the chicken feet. I looked so rude at the Summer Palace spitting it out, but damn was it nasty.
