Hi everyone, this is my first post.  I had a wonderful house rabbit for many years and I understand how to care for a regular bunny.  A friend of mine contacted me after visiting a rabbit rescue about a very young dwarf rabbit that has congenital splayed back legs. Only his back legs are affected.  I’m trying to find an adoptive home for him.  I might have someone who would be interested but I want to have some general idea of the care the rabbit will need.  I’m also interested in adopting him myself but I would have to get an ok from my landlord first.  Has anyone cared for a rabbit with this syndrome before?  I haven’t seen him in person yet as the rescue is in another part of my state.

          Hi there, welcome

I don’t have any personal experience with this, but I have referenced this site before, and it has loads of resources for caring for disabled bunnies: http://www.disabledrabbits.com/

It would hopefully give you a better sense of what the bun would need. How wonderful that you are thinking of adopting him! I know one of the leaders at my rescue cares for a bun that was paralyzed by an unknown parasite (maybe sarcocystis), and the bun lives in a play pen full of fluffy hay that she can wiggle and burrow around in. And of course she gets lots of snuggles on the couch.

There is also a Facebook page called “Disabled Rabbits”. You could probably get lots of questions answered there.
