Hello, I have a 3 year old dwarf rabbit named Conejito. Earlier today as usual I opened his cage door and came to my computer so he could hop around, when I opened his door he was laying down and didn’t come to the door (as usual) so I thought it was a little weird. I didn’t think much of it.
Later this evening he still hadn’t moved or come out so I called his name at his cage door and he would not move. I then opened the top doors to his cage and he flipped over a little bit on his side to stretch out (kinda like a cat or a really comfy bunny) and as I pet his head he closed his eyes and kept them closed. (which is super unusual). So then I was very concerned. I got his pellets and poured them into the bowl to see if he would get up, because he ALWAYS runs when he hears the bag and then immediately goes to his bowl and waits for them. He didn’t move. I freaked out.
He then goes underneath a table which is what sick dying animals do, they hide from you, and I even put pellets right below him and he refused to eat. It’s too late to take him to the vet so I have to go tomorrow morning. BUT, then all of the sudden (after I give him a hot water bottle thinking it might be GI stasis because he was cold) he gets up, and starts bouncing around like usual. Like nothing ever happened. Went in his enclosure and ate his hay, ran around me in circles (as always), and came to me for head scratches. What. The. Heck.
So then as a test I get him a VERY small amount of pellets (like three pieces) to see how he reacts. As soon as my hand hits the bag he darts for his eating area and eats them SUPER quick. This all happened from 11 p.m – 12 a.m. What?? I really thought he was dying. I’m taking him to the vet first thing in the morning, but I’m so confused and cannot find ANYTHING like this on the internet. I was wondering if similar things has happened to anyone.
(also no my house is no where near too cold, it’s 74 in this room right now)
