Hi everyone, my boy coffee is 1 year old and neutered.  Usually he goes to rest in the afternoon for like 5-7 hours.  Today, he woke up in the middle of his sleeping and thumping like 10 times, I go check him, he seems fine, not under any pressure, then I walk away to do my own things. And he did that thumping again, so I gave him some treats and head rubs, he seems happy about it, he even purrs when I did the head rub. Does he just want attention? He never behave like this before so I am curious.

It could be attention or he could have heard something you couldn’t and it was making him feel endangered.

My bun has done this a few times when the neighbors dog get’s out of the fenced yard and comes into mine. I didn’t even know at first as I couldn’t hear anything until I saw the dog, and she can’t see him she just knew. guess she’s my guard bunny. a couple times she has done it when I ignore her at 5 in the morning for breakfast, she sit’s on my chest and put’s her nose on mine and I give her a head rub and then get up and make her breakfast. If I ignore her like I have done a couple times she will hop off the bed and thump the floor. now the way your bun is thumping I think he is bothered by something he see’s as a danger, try looking outside when he does this and see if anything is going on.

My bun will do this if he hears some motor outside that I don’t even notice. Sometimes does it to the washing machine even though I have the TV on and the machine is in another room, or he’ll hear some bird noise on the TV show I’m watching and just start thumping.

I would say it’s either noise or wanting to be let out of the cage/wanting attention.

I have experienced thumping for a variety of reasons and it is frustrating when you have no clue what caused it.

When my buck was caged he would thump if it was his usual time to come out and I didn’t let him out. It could be that he is expressing his displeasure of not getting attention exactly when he feels he deserves it. I would find it odd that he did this when he was in the middle of sleeping though.

I also had a buck that woke me up at 5:30am thumping in his litter box that had a metal grate. I went to calm him down and he still sat in his box and continued to thump. That was fun! I am guessing there was one of three things that could have caused my buck to do this. It was either a sound, something out the sliding glass door that scared him or something that was on the floor outside of his pen that wasn’t there before.

If your buck woke up all of a sudden and did this I would say it was probably something he had seen or heard.
