So I took Humphrey to be neutered yesterday. Before I took him I noticed a little lump swelling around his bottom. I asked the vet to take a look during the procedure and he said that’s fine. I took him home at 4pm yesterday and by 8am this morning he still hadn’t pooped or peed at all. I panicked and took him straight back to the vets, as the lump had also swollen . The vet said he must have licked himself and it must have swelled a bit but it looked normal. He also gave me a stimulant to help him poop and some liquid food to make sure he’s eating , to be syringe fed. (He’s been eating small amounts so I wasn’t too worried.) I have brought him home and he’s done 2 pees but no poops even still. He’s quiet and hiding in his cage, usually he loves running around the lounge. Is this normal after neutering ? Is it normal not to poop at all? It’s been over 24 hours now and he’s done 2 small ones. The vet said it’s fine but I’m not convinced. Please help.

        Thanks

Is there another bunny savvy vet in your area? Bombur had his first bout of stasis following his neuter. After 24 hours with only 2 poops, I’d get him back to the vet to see if they can get him pooping with some motility drugs. I’m also thinking maybe his site could be infected. That happened to Bombur as well. It wouldn’t hurt to get him on an antibiotic while he’s healing, just as a precaution. Asriel was a little swollen, but nothing major, and he ate right after as well.

I had a new vet number ready to call for when I woke up this morning, but I came downstairs and he’s done about 20 poops and he’s eating normally again! Must have just felt off after the castration. He’s eating his food properly and everything’. I’m over the moon. Thank you so much for the help ❤️ Will take him somewhere else if it happens again as I need things explained to me properly with him being my first bun xxx

                  Yay!

It is normal for them to be a bit under the weather for the first 24-48 hours or so, and during the first 24 hours, anything they eat is great.

Try to check his incision area daily so you can catch any signs of infection early (swelling, excessive redness, seepage). It’s easiest if you can get someone else to hold him for you while you check. The other person can sit” him in their lap so his back is supported by their belly and the hind legs held so he can’t kick out.
