Hello, thanks to the great advice of the folks on BinkyBunny, my rescue Dharma is litter box trained. However, what we are using right now is a very large, low profile litterbox with CareFresh bedding in it and hay on one side.

Dharma is a furry lionhead (with a nice furry rump) so we have CareFresh bedding strewn all over, all the time.

I don’t want to disrupt her good habits, but I would like to explore options that would be less messy and I know some of y’all use a grate option that catches the pills on top and the litter catches the wetness below.

What grates do you use (I assume it is something comfy on their toes)? And what do you put under your grate?

        Thanks!

I used plastic knitting mesh/canvas as a grate. It has been on top of both carefresh paper bedding and kaytee small granule litter. The meshes come with different hole sizes. I use the 7-count size!

Grates are sold in the BB store here. You can buy just the grate or the litter box and grate. It looks like they don’t keep them in stock, but you can pre-order them.

I’d also highly suggest pine pellets/wood stove pellets. They absorb so much more than the carefresh, and it doesn’t stick to places or the buns either.
