Gizmo was playing with a guinea pig friend when he started chasing her. The dope was running so fast he ran face first into his pen and got a bloody nose. I called the vet immediately and she advised cleaning him up. If there wasn’t a large laceration, he’s probably fine. We cleaned his nose vents and the bleeding stopped, and also saw a small dot that we think caused the issue. Of course I’m worried sick despite the fact that he’s eating, pooping, drinking, and cleaning himself all like normal. Has anybody ever had a bunny get a bloody nose/facial trauma?

I would like to just say please be careful with buns and guinea pigs. Bunnies tend to bully them, in ways we dont percieve as bullying, like chasing.

That said, i had a bun that was very clumsy. I would be careful of his teeth from now for the next 6 weeks as he may have caused a malcolusion (my boy did this)
Another time he came up to give me kisses, and when I looked blood was oozing from his mouth. It was horrifying for me, but he was totally fine.

Gizmo lived with guinea pigs at the sanctuary he was at and enjoyed lounging with them. It was an unexpected reaction as both animals were very friendly to begin with. I don’t personally own any pigs and I don’t plan to, but I thought a controlled meeting would help him a bit since he’s a lone bunny. I feel terrible that I didn’t see any signs it was going wrong.

Gizmo is also very clumsy. This isn’t the first time he’s gotten overexcited about something and bumped into the pen or furniture decently hard. This is just the first time he’s gotten hurt. For now he’s eating his hay and pellets so teeth aren’t my concern (though I will keep an eye on them). I’m worried the idiot concussed himself. You’re right, it was terrifying. I suddenly saw blood on his paws and we couldn’t find where it was coming from until the blood spread from the black fur around his left nostril to the white of his upper lip and right nostril. The fact that he’s mostly white with black spots made it look even worse than it was.
