So I recently posted asking why my rabbit has to be forced to eat. My question now is he lonley and needs a friend? He seems to only hopp around and somewhat play when I take his cardboard box away from him. Even then he does not seem to play with he toys as much as when I first got him which was only the ending of summer this year. He seems to not be as intrested in his food as much as he was either.

Bunnies are group animals so yes they are indeed better off with a bonded companion.

How much time do you spend with him?

I will get ready in the morning with him and at night I will spend around 3 hours with him.

Do you have any other pets?  I know cats can sometimes bond well with rabbits, but be sure to be careful if doing so.  It all depends on the animals’ personalities.  If you don’t already have another pet, you could consider getting your bunny a friend, but it is sometimes difficult to bond them so do lots of research!

If his energy level has changed along with his eating habits then I would double my recommendation that a vet visit is in order. It’s possible he could be lonely but I wouldn’t jump to that as the first reason for these changes.

I agree with Doodles, loneliness does not usually cause low appetite unless it’s due to the loss of a bonded mate. And even in those cases, a vet visit is in order. I didn’t see your other post, have you been to the vet? Is he pooping normally?

He is pooping normally, and I have not yet brought him to the vet.

Ah yes, the others have a good point. Make sure to rule out any other causes!

My Muffin stopped eating from loneliness when she was in the shelter, but she never had a bun mate. I think it’s just because she’s a very social bun and in the shelter they sit in tiny cages all day all alone.
