Hey y’all. So unfortunately, Clover somehow managed to get to a styrofoam container of japanese takeout rice that I thought I left out of his reach, and he ate quite a lot of it, along with some of the styrofoam by the looks of it. Obviously I’m going to be monitoring him for impaction the next couple days, but is there anything else I should be ready for/be aware of with rice and styrofoam in particular? ANy potential poisoning? I’d really appreciate some advice cause I’m pretty nervous. ;w; Thank you

I would be quite worried that the combination of starchy inappropriate food and styrofoam could cause a blockage or GI stasis. Is he eating hay still? Encourage as much hay eating and water drinking as possible. Clear out his litter tray so that you can see if he’s pooping, and give lots of small handfuls of hay so you can monitor how much he’s eating. If he’s not eating or pooping, take him to the vet immediately.

I don’t think there’s anythin g in particular to look out for. He probably chewed the styrofoam well, so it shuld pass through. The rice was cooked, which is also very good, uncooked rice swells in the yummy and that can be really hazardous. The starch could make him have poopy butt for a few days. Push hay and water.

Okay, I’ll keep an eye on his eating and make sure he’s eating his hay! Should I discontinue his pellets for a few days? I give him 1/8 cup every morning. (And usually also veggies at night but I don’t have access to them at the moment.)

Sorry I’m late to this! You could reduce his pellets by half for a few days if you see sticky poop. Otherwise I’d just feed him like you normally do.
